Content/program

MSC (Mindful Self-Compassion) is a course in self-compassion. In this 8-week course we learn about and apply self-compassion. MSC is evidence-based and was developed by Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer. You will learn exercises to meet yourself with care, kindness and understanding in challenging moments. Research on self-compassion shows that a kind inner attitude towards ourselves reduces stress.


In the course you will learn:


  • Apply self-compassion, self-kindness and mindfulness in everyday life
  • Understand the proven positive effects of self-compassion
  • Motivate yourself with more kindness instead of criticism


Course program - A brief overview

  • The course comprises 8 course units of 2.5 hours each plus a retreat day.
  • The retreat day takes place on a Saturday and lasts approx. 5 hours. It is an intensive day of practice.
  • On the evenings of the course, experiences are exchanged, observations are reflected on together and, above all, practiced.
  • MSC is a compassion training, even though mindfulness training is the basis of self-compassion.

MSC is suitable for anyone who already has mindfulness training experience (has attended an MBSR course) and would like to delve deeper into mindfulness, self-compassion and self-kindness. The aim is to learn how to support yourself in challenging situations.

The course is non-denominational and therefore open to all.


At the beginning of the course, there will be a preliminary discussion in which goals and expectations are discussed together. The purpose of the meeting is to get to know each other and to ensure that the course can be beneficial for you in your current life situation. 


It is recommended that you have already completed an MBSR course. MSC is not psychotherapy and participation is not possible in acute crises.

Prerequisites for attendance

This course does not require any level of ability. Anyone aged 35 or over can take part, regardless of their ability level.

  • Willingness to practise for around 60 minutes a day during the 8-week course.
  • Attendance on the first day of the course is a prerequisite for participation. 
  • An obligatory preliminary discussion with the course instructor will take place before the start of the course.
